[FREE ChatGPT Prompt] Fix Your American English Stress, Intonation, and Rhythm!

Hey there!

Problem

Even after mastering American pronunciation, your accent might still sound "off." Why? Often, the issue isn't just individual sounds—it’s the stress, intonation, and rhythm differences between your first language and American English.

Solution

By comparing and contrasting these differences, you’ll gain a better understanding of what to adjust. After all, you can’t change what you’re unaware of!

The ChatGPT prompts I promised for this (to copy and paste):

  1. Can you compare and contrast the rules of connected speech, stress, and intonation between American English and [INSERT YOUR FIRST LANGUAGE]. Please include word stress, sentence stress, and any unnatural habits that might carry through to English as a(n) [INSERT YOUR FIRST LANGUAGE] speaker.

(If ChatGPT does NOT give you a table with a summary, you may ask: "Please give me a Summary of Key Differences and Challenges in table format")

***ALLOW ChatGPT to respond before the next prompt***
  2. Let's look at it from a connected speech perspective. What about sentence stress? Which words are stressed? (Also explain what that means.) Which words are unstressed? (include a list of words that are always, usually, and sometimes stressed)

***ALLOW ChatGPT to respond before the next prompt***
  3. Can you write these sentences out and PUT IN CAPITAL LETTERS WHERE THE STRESS IS, and put in bold what might potentially be a challenge or done incorrectly by a(n) [INSERT YOUR FIRST LANGUAGE] speaker (from [INSERT COUNTRY] if necessary)?

Here are the sentences: [INSERT SENTENCES]

Watch me do this here.

Here is a DIFFERENT chat I promised to share with you (if you would like to review the rules of stress): https://chatgpt.com/share/67eb1c6a-6264-8001-a25c-f323c899d010

Hey there! I have a couple of quick updates for you. First update: no more accent reviews for purchase I will no longer be offering public accent reviews in exchange for a donation or payment. While they can be fun, I don’t feel they provide the same depth of feedback that I give my students. I may still do Judge My Accent reaction videos from Reddit (just for fun), but keep in mind that these are never as accurate or helpful as my student sessions. When I work with students, I’m constantly...
